Congratulations and Thank you

It was celebration time at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall recently, as a number of volunteers marked over five or ten years of voluntary service.

At a special lunch to mark the occasion, the volunteers were awarded certificates and commemorative pins by the Museum Director Richard Doughty and Chair of Trustees Brian Steward. The volunteers came from all departments of the Museum including galleries, education, boat restoration and the library.

‘The National Maritime Museum Cornwall simply could not function without our dedicated team of volunteers and we are extremely grateful for their continued support,’ said Director Richard Doughty. ‘Their time and effort contributes so much to the museum and they are very highly valued members of the team, contributing both skills and time to the successful running of the museum.’

Last year 175 volunteers gave over 30,000 hours.

Over 60% of volunteers at the museum have been with the museum for over five years and over 40% for over 10 years.

Shorter term placements are also available says Human Resources Manager Linda Frost.

‘Having just opened two new exhibitions and an exciting programme of children’s activities planned for the summer, there could not be a better time to get involved,’ she said. ‘Now is a really exciting time to volunteer at the museum and we have various short and long term opportunities available across all departments. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers.’
