Disappearing Lines with Gail McGarva

A black and white image of Gail McGarva smiling for the camera in front of a wooden boat.

Thursday 2 December, 10am – 4pm

Create your own miniature ‘ghost ship’ using traditional wooden boatbuilding techniques with boat builder Gail McGarva.

The Disappearing Lines workshop is a combination of practical hands-on activities interwoven with capturing the stories of craft in danger of extinction. With a maximum of 12 participants, you do not need to be skilled in woodwork and all equipment is provided.

The one-day workshop will give participants the opportunity to try their hand at two key processes in traditional wooden boatbuilding – steam bending using oak and copper-rivet fastening. Through Gail’s demonstrations and tutoring, you will create your own miniature oak ribcage of a boat, a ghost ship symbolising the disappearing lines of the craft.

The workshop is fully funded and therefore free, however donations to National Maritime Museum Cornwall are very welcome and gratefully received.

To secure your place please email enquiries@nmmc.co.uk or call 01326 313388.

Disappearing Lines is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
