Cornwall’s limited transport links mean that school travel costs for educational trips can be extremely high. In some cases, the costs completely prohibit schools from being able to take children out of the classroom. We wanted to address this and give as many children as possible the opportunity to experience and benefit from our fantastic learning programme.
We are delighted to have secured funding to contribute towards transport costs to the Museum for eligible schools. Schools that receive a minimum of 30% Pupil Premium funding for pupils can apply for a travel bursary of £300, reimbursed after the trip to support with the costs of getting to and from the Museum.
Our award-winning learning programme is the largest and most varied of its kind in Cornwall. We offer school and education groups an unforgettable experience in the Museum’s inspirational spaces, including a range of curriculum workshops and hands-on learning activities. Each programme can be carefully tailored to the needs of groups and we may also be able to mix and match activities to topics or programme of study.
There are a limited number of travel bursaries available and the scheme works on a first-come, first-served basis. If your school is interested in visiting National Maritime Museum Cornwall before the end of March 2026 and receiving a bursary towards travel costs, contact the Learning team here.
