Estates & Facilities Manager
Permanent, Full-time, c. £40,000-£45,000
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Estates and Facilities Manager to lead the strategic and operational management of our estate and facilities.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring our building, facilities, offsite Boat and Collection Store building (Ponsharden), infrastructure, and all external grounds within the Museum’s remit are safe, compliant, sustainable, and fit for purpose.
The successful candidate will oversee maintenance, health and safety compliance, capital projects, contractor management, and facilities operations.
The Estates and Facilities Manager will oversee a complex commercial property portfolio, so it is essential that you have an understanding and proven experience of managing commercial leases, tenant relationships and property legislation.
You will be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships, highly organised and proactive, with a successful track record of managing projects to time, budget and quality.
You will have commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and the ability to manage and coordinate multiple stakeholders to maximise estate efficiency, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
It is therefore essential you have knowledge of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance, preferably with a NEBOSH, or IOSH qualification. Proven experience of managing maintenance programmes, preventative and reactive, with a strong understanding of building maintenance. Managing budgets and procurement, as well as financial management reporting is also essential.
A relocation package would be available for the ideal candidate.

Estates and Facilities Manager Candidate Brief
Visitor Experience Supervisor
£13.38 per hour, Part-time, 2 days per week (15 hours)
Contract 1: Sunday and Monday
Contract 2: Tuesday and Wednesday
Fixed-term six-month contract
We are seeking two part-time Visitor Experience Supervisors, who will work as part of the Visitor Experience team, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Museum to ensure we deliver an exceptional visitor experience.
You will undertake the daily procedures at the start of the day to ensure the Museum is ready for our first visitors at 10.00am and have responsibility for securely locking up at the end of the day.
You will be the key point of contact for all staff and volunteers on operational matters, problem solving to ensure issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
Our Visitor Experience Supervisors offer a warm welcome to visitors arriving for their visit, process admission tickets, and assist with retail sales. They have daily management for our Visitor Experience volunteers, ensuring the rota is maintained, proactively contacting volunteers where there is a requirement for support.
You will have previous experience of working in a busy customer-facing environment, have a ‘can-do’ attitude, with excellent customer service skills. You will be an excellent team player who can face the daily challenges competently and calmly.
You would be the ‘responsible person’ in an evacuation situation, consulting with the emergency services and senior members of staff. You have responsibility to administer first aid to visitors, staff, and volunteers, as and when required. It is not essential that you have a first aid qualification, as training will be provided.

Visitor Experience Volunteer
Voluntary position weekdays and/or weekends (unpaid)
Visitor Experience volunteers provide a warm and friendly welcome for our visitors whilst they explore the Museum. You’ll engage with visitors, providing supplementary, additional in-depth information about our exhibitions and activities, as well as providing helpful directions to our galleries, assisting visitors to discover the abundance of artifacts and hidden treasures within. You’ll provide a welcoming presence in our galleries interacting with visitors of all ages, helping to create an unforgettable day out for our visitors.
