World Mental Health Day Fri 10 October at the Museum

If you’re visiting us on Friday 10 October you’ll find many of our Museum spaces are filled with interesting activities and events in celebration of World Mental Health Day.

These activities are part of an event organised by Cornish organisations: Pentreath, Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust, Cornwall Mind, Cornwall Voluntary Sector Forum, Cornwall Rural Community Charity, The CHAOS Group, Eden Project, Cornwall College, Active Plus and Volunteer Cornwall.

The morning sessions are open to professionals working in the mental health sector, who will be invited to register on arrival from 9am.

The Museum will be open all day but from 1pm the public are invited to attend and join in with the World Mental Health Day celebrations, giving everyone the chance to explore the different ways Mental Health support can be accessed.

Museum visitors don’t need to book any workshops or activities and are welcome to join in on the day but please note that this event has not been organised by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

Events include market stalls and music in our Boat Hall, Lecture Theatre Guest Speakers including Charlotte Banfield, International Surfing Association Para Surfing World Champion, whose story is featured in our SURF! Exhibition. At 2.30pm The Wave Project will be popping up in SURF! talking about the work they do, transforming young lives through surf therapy.

Other activities are taking place throughout the day in our Waterside Café, Cornish Quayside Gallery and Falmouth Gallery. There are mermaid appearances, music performances, workshops happening in our Learning Centre and visitors may even find a mural workshop outside the Museum.

Mental health professionals, community organisations and members of the public are invited to come together for this powerful day of connection, collaboration and conversation.
