Do I need to bring anything?

All materials will be provided, but please bring an apron or old clothes, and your sketchbook if you have one.

Do I need to come with any ideas?

Layla recommends arriving with a few simple design ideas in mind. Feel free to bring any reference images, sketches, or photos that inspire you. During the workshop, you’ll develop your ideas into a linocut design and explore techniques for transferring, carving, and printing your image.

What ideas work well?

If this is your first time trying lino printing, it’s best to start with something bold and uncomplicated — clean lines and clear shapes work beautifully.

Here are a few beginner-friendly, wintery festive ideas to spark inspiration:

  • A single fir tree or pine cone silhouette
  • Snowflakes or star patterns
  • Moonlit sky reflecting on the sea
  • A simple robin, hare, or fox in a snowy setting
  • A lighthouse, sailing boat, or wave pattern inspired by the coast
  • A festive wreath, holly branch, or mistletoe sprig
  • A coastal silhouette e.g. cliffs, buildings
  • Lantern or candle glowing in the dark
