Wednesday 14 January, 10am – 2pm

Workshop – 90 mins

Morning session 10.30 – 12.00 or Afternoon session 12.30 – 14.00

Hear the tragic story of HMS Anson that was wrecked on the Lizard in 1807 and the subsequent development of the rocket and Breeches Buoy apparatus by Cornish inventor, Henry Trengrouse, that went on to save thousands of lives. Then, take part in a ‘real’ sea rescue in which we fire a bottle rocket and breeches buoy over our tidal pool in order to rescue local fisherman “John Henry Pascoe” from his shipwrecked fishing boat!

Discover the incredible true story of the Robertson family’s survival at sea in the dinghy, Ednamair, in front of the boat itself. Then, make your very own sailing boat to sail across our big boat pool.

Self-Directed Explore – 90 mins

To compliment the facilitated workshop, there will also be an opportunity to explore other parts of the Museum (10.30 – 12.00 or 12.30 – 14.00) including SURF!, our current major temporary exhibition, The Lookout at the very top of our tower and The Tidal Zone at the bottom beneath the water (depending on the tide!). We also have our Cornwall Galleries that tell the stories of Cornwall’s relationship to the sea and our RNLI Rescue Zone where you’ll find a real RNLI Arancia in-shore lifeboat, RNLI jet-ski, RNLI quadbike and life raft as well as key safety messages and interactive displays.
