Home Education Days run from 10am – 2pm and include a facilitated workshop (morning or afternoon) and self-directed time to explore the Museum.
This exciting workshop focusses on the common myths and misconceptions about pirates and uncovers some of the truths behind them.
Morning session 10.30 – 12.00 or Afternoon session 12.30 – 14.00
We begin by building up a map of the world using our large 17th century floor map, introduce pirate treasure and ask the question: ‘what did pirate treasure really look like and where did it come from?’ Following this we think about pirate battles and have a close look at some pirate weapons.
For the second part of the workshop, we think about pirate ships and ask the question ‘did all pirates sail large galleons?’. The children end the morning by making their very own pirate ships to race across our boat pool!
In addition to the facilitated workshop, there will be an opportunity to explore other parts of the museum including our major exhibition, SURF!, as well as The Lookout at the very top of our tower, The Tidal Zone at the bottom of the tower, under the sea, the RNLI Rescue Zone where you’ll find a real RNLI Arancia in-shore lifeboat, RNLI jet-ski and RNLI quadbike as well as key safety messages and interactive displays, and our Cornwall Galleries where you can learn about Cornwall’s relationship to the sea.
£6.95 per child, accompanying adults are free of charge.
Please note, due to capacity we have to restrict the number of accompanying adults to 1 x adult per family; additional adults will need to purchase admission at the standard rate and won’t be able to join the workshop itself.
Please note, this charge covers access to the Museum and the workshop for the day.
