Home Education Days run from 10am – 2pm and include a facilitated workshop (morning or afternoon) and self-directed time to explore the Museum.
In this fascinating workshop, we step back in time to the Tudor period and the golden age of exploration and discovery.
Morning session 10.30 – 12.00 or Afternoon session 12.30 – 14.00
Come face-to-face with Elizabeth I in our portrait investigation and get hands on with a giant map of the world to discover the causes and impact of exploration in Tudor times.
Follow Sir Francis Drake on his incredible voyage around the world (1577-1580) and discover where he travelled and why before jumping aboard a Spanish galleon for a raiding challenge with replica artefacts.
Finally, discover what life was like was like on board a Tudor ship. What did a Tudor warship look like? What clothing would a Tudor sailor have worn? What food would have been eaten on board a Tudor ship?
In addition to the facilitated workshop, there will be an opportunity to explore other parts of the museum including our major exhibition, SURF!, as well as The Lookout at the very top of our tower, The Tidal Zone at the bottom of the tower, under the sea, the RNLI Rescue Zone where you’ll find a real RNLI Arancia in-shore lifeboat, RNLI jet-ski and RNLI quadbike as well as key safety messages and interactive displays, and our Cornwall Galleries where you can learn about Cornwall’s relationship to the sea.
