Our newly completed replica of a wartime Special Operations Executive surf boat is afloat, and heading to events in Cornwall this summer.
On Friday 8 May, VE Day 2026, the culmination of months of dedicated craftsmanship reached a milestone moment. The SN2, our replica of a WW2 Special Operations Executive (SOE) Surf Boat, took to the water for the very first time.
The boat has been built by the skilled and dedicated boatbuilding team of volunteers and staff in the Museum’s workshop, highlighting covert wartime operations and a deep-rooted connection to the Helford River.
Having had a successful launch the boat has now been moved out of the workshop and to our off-site storage facility, ahead of an exciting summer of public appearances along the Cornish coast.
Saturday 30 May – Trebah Military Day
EPIC GIGability CPGC will crew the SN2 at this annual commemoration of the men of the 29th US Division who embarked for D-Day from Trebah Beach, a fitting outing for a boat with a similar wartime spirit.
12 – 14 June – Falmouth Classics Regatta
The SN2 will be part of the celebrated Falmouth Classics Regatta, where traditional and historic vessels gather each year.
25 July – Port Navas Regatta
We also hope to return to Port Navas Regatta in 2026 at the Helford Estuary.
8 Aug – Falmouth Carnival
Keep an eye on the Falmouth Carnival parade as the SN2 may well make an appearance at Falmouth Carnival this summer…
Autumn 2026 – Museum Exhibition
We look forward to sharing the full story of the SN-2, and Cornwall’s wider wartime connections, in a dedicated exhibition opening in Autumn 2026. Until then, this summer’s events offer a rare and special chance to see this remarkable craft afloat.
