Our crew of volunteers are highly valued members of the Museum team. We are extremely grateful for their continued support; they contribute so much to the Museum in a variety of ways. We’re always keen to encourage others to join us, and we welcome enquiries from everyone.
So why volunteer for us?
People join our crew of volunteers for a variety of reasons, here are just a few:
- It’s sociable – meet new people and feel part of a team
- An excellent way to learn new skills and gain confidence
- Valuable experience to enhance job applications and your CV
You don’t need experience to volunteer for us, as full training and support will be provided. We are just looking for enthusiastic people to help us exceed our visitor’s expectations by providing an enjoyable day out.
What we can offer you
Our volunteers enjoy many benefits. Eligibility for some of these benefits depends on how many hours you volunteer. They include:
- Free entry, for you and one guest to the Museum
- 25% discount for you in the Museum Gift Shop and Waterside Café
- Free parking when carrying out volunteering duties
- Reimbursement of travel expenses between home and the Museum
- Free entrance to other Cornish Heritage Volunteer scheme sites (must complete minimum of 13 shifts (50 hours) volunteering per year to qualify)
- Social events including Volunteer Breakfasts and an annual party
Here are a few of the ways you can help and support the Museum
- Work in public facing roles that help us engage our visitors with our collection and exhibitions; help us create an unforgettable day out for our visitors
- Work with our learning team to provide an inspirational school visit
- Help with the delivery of our free craft activities and events for our family audiences during the school holidays
- Assist visitors to our Library and help with the cataloguing of books
Our current volunteer opportunities are
- Visitor Experience Volunteers: weekdays and weekends
- Family Craft Activity Volunteers: school holiday periods
- Formal Learning Assistant Volunteers: weekdays during term time

Once you have returned your form, Emily will contact you to arrange an informal interview at the Museum. We aim to ensure our volunteers have a rewarding and fulfilling experience. This informal interview will help you, and us, decide whether the Museum is really where you want to volunteer.

Training
The Museum provides full induction welcome training for all volunteer roles, which helps you become familiar with the Museum. You will also receive specific department training in order for you to be confident in your role.
