This paper looks at the various ways in which yachting has been represented in words, pictures and photography and at how these representations specifically apply to the history of yachting in Cornwall. Cornwall has a rich and varied yachting history since Victorian times. Of particular interest are the Falmouth artists, Tuke and Hemy, who specialised in painting yachting scenes; and female sailor-writers, such as Du Maurier and Peter Gerard, during the inter-war years.
