When we launched our dedicated Home Education Days earlier this year, we knew we were onto something special. The response from families has been brilliant, and we’re thrilled to announce that due to their popularity, we’re adding new dates for next term, September 2026.
Booking is now live for our next engaging, hands-on learning experiences designed specifically with Home Educating families in mind.
What Are Home Education Days?
Home Education Days are pre-bookable sessions created exclusively for home educating families. Led by our Formal Learning Manager, each day runs from 10am to 2pm and combines a 90-minute hands-on facilitated workshop paired with 90 minutes of self-directed exploration throughout the Museum.
Whether your child learns best through guided discovery or independent investigation, there’s space for both.
Two New Workshops This September
We’re excited to introduce two brand-new workshop experiences for next term. Both are launching simultaneously on consecutive days, so you can choose the one that best suits your children’s age and interests.
Voyage of the Mystery – Wednesday 23 September, 10am – 2pm
Recommended for Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7), but all welcome
Imagine setting sail in a small fishing boat with just six crewmates, heading halfway across the world with nothing but your wits and the sea beneath you. This is the extraordinary true story of seven Cornish fishermen who did exactly that in 1854, aboard the fishing boat Mystery.
In this hands-on workshop, your children will step back in time and discover what inspired these bold men to undertake such an incredible voyage and what challenges they faced.

Hevva! Hevva! – Thursday 24 September, 10am – 2pm
Recommended for Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), but all welcome
“Hevva! Hevva!” – the cry that echoed through 19th century Cornish villages whenever the pilchards arrived. In this evocative workshop, discover what daily life was really like for the pilchard fishermen and women who formed the backbone of Cornwall’s fishing communities.
Through interactive activities and storytelling, your children will explore the hard work, the tight-knit communities, the traditions, and the skills involved in this industry.
